Getting Tools and Guidance Through Teletherapy

Are you a Connecticut resident considering therapy for yourself or for your child or adolescent? Perhaps you are seeking strategies to address anxiety. Maybe you are a parent looking for support to manage your child’s challenging behaviors. No matter the circumstances, you want tools and guidance now, but the prospect of adding one more appointment to your calendar can be overwhelming. You may have noticed the rise in popularity of online therapy and are wondering if this would be a good fit for you. Thankfully, teletherapy is an effective and convenient option that can empower you with the tools to be your best self.

Advantages of Online Therapy

Here are just a few reasons why teletherapy may be the solution that you have been looking for:

1. Teletherapy is convenient and accessible.

Whether you are balancing a schedule that is full of work, school, social, or childcare commitments, you know firsthand that time is precious. Being able to obtain compassionate and collaborative online therapy services from home can be a game changer. If you live in rural Connecticut, virtual therapy provides treatment options that you may not have access to in your local community. Or, if you live in a city, such as Hartford or New Haven, you can eliminate valuable time spent traveling or sitting in traffic while still receiving quality care.

2. Online therapy is effective.

Studies show that online therapy works as well as in-person therapy for most mental health challenges, such as anxiety. At our practice, we use age-appropriate skill building activities that have been adapted to a virtual format to make teletherapy sessions engaging for young people. Regardless of whether therapy is conducted in an office or via a video platform, you or your child will be provided with the same evidence-based strategies and support needed to develop coping skills, build confidence, and make positive life changes.

3. You choose the private, comfortable therapy space that is best for you.

It is not surprising that many people feel more comfortable opening up about challenging topics when in a familiar space at home rather than when in an office. Developing a strong client-therapist relationship leads to more successful treatment outcomes, so feeling at ease during therapy really matters. As young people are often used to communicating and building relationships online, this may also help them feel more comfortable interacting with their virtual therapist.

Despite the many benefits of teletherapy, there is no one-size-fits-all approach and virtual therapy may not be a good fit for everyone. It is best to consult with a therapist to determine whether online services are an appropriate option to meet your or your child’s needs.

Online Anxiety Treatment in Connecticut

At Positive Development Psychology, we know that, with the right tools and guidance from an anxiety specialist, managing your anxiety is possible. Through online anxiety treatment, you will learn to manage anxious thinking, build confidence to face your fears, tolerate distress, and respond in helpful ways that will not strengthen your anxiety over time. You will be equipped with the same coping strategies that you would have learned in a therapist’s office.

Additionally, virtual anxiety treatment lends itself well to exposure exercises, an evidence-based technique that may be used to address anxiety. Exposure therapy involves practicing skills and facing anxiety-provoking situations gradually and in a supportive environment until the situations eventually do not elicit the same fear response as they once did. It is possible to receive support from your online anxiety therapist in real-time by bringing your electronic device with you into these anxiety-producing environments.

As one of our specialities is anxiety treatment, our practice is always looking to provide our clients with more treatment options to support their needs. As such, in addition to individual therapy for young people, we are also excited to offer a parent-based virtual anxiety treatment program that helps children and adolescents with anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
